Greenwood Park

I'm writing a lump-sum review of this wonderful historic park dedicated to the brave, hard-working & kind Japanese families & people who had beautiful greenhouses growing a large variety of herbs, fruits & vegetables here in the '30's and '40's. Arigato. I also have a strong emotional connection to this neighborhood; since my dear alchemist-incensemaker-herbalist friend Kirk, and later amazing Zoe (massage therapist, aromatherapist & healer) lived just around the corner a few blocks away...in THE VERY SAME HOUSE ! I was a caretaker of the property a couple of summers; sweet memories. That said; I'm considerably DISSAPOINTED in the lack of maintenance & care given afforded to the park; anything from several piles of unseen land-mine S M E L L Y dog-doo smooshed into the lovely grass summer after summer. Being a furbaby fan, I can handle a dog running up to me when I'm reading in the sun; however; some dogs can be aggressive & tease especially if I'm (or someone) is trying to enjoy...F O O D. Please keep your dog friendly, safe & trained as there are small children and quiet-seeking pensioners here as well. Also wondering about the fly-casting fisherman who kept showing up in MY space when the E N T I R E park was available, practicing his wide swings with hooks; could be a bloody mess, etc. T h e n, THE R E S T R O O M ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Lovely, lovely building; however; ICK, YUCK, CRINGE, UNSIGHTLY, DIRTY, UNSAFE, DISGUSTING, UNACCEPTABLE, & BLIGHT. W H Y ? ? ? ? ? (I've found this toilet often clogged with big logs & a beehive hairdo's worth of toilet paper; a huge backed-up unsightly mess like something out of an 1890's lumber camp !) Other historic visits; H U G E s t i n k from the 'modern' facilities here like when you visit miners' ghosttown outhouse; puzzling !? I've also found kaka recently, fossilized on the floor under boobytrap toilet paper; left for...SEVERAL ! ! ! days. COME ON, PEOPLE ! Today, 10 am, Sunday April 26; I saw 20-30 (count them) tiny multicolor balloons & balloon shrapnel LEFT ALL OVER THE FLOOR; surely a choking hazard for pets & children. I've picked up/cleaned up the floor quite a few times past summers; let's get some kind of neighborhood PLAN going to take better care & hygiene of this restroom; last person(s) at sunset everyday ? This is, after all...Y O U R PARK...and it is, daily, the actions, intentions, virtues, stewardship & environment we as adults M O D E L to our children that creates safety, sustainability, quality of life & a better world. Finally; I'd like to address the 24-hour food pantry at (90th&Fremont, NW corner) It was extremely well-run & organized for several years; then messy/smelly, then humming again; now seems struggling/ are people burned out ? Understandably & big thank-you to folks who still keep it going; duly noted & appreciated ! Its got a great location & delightful building going; let's develop an easy organized fun neighborhood P L A N so a few people don't feel burdened; a plan to keep it clean & stocked every 2- 4 days or so, whatever works. I tidy, organize, cull moldy produce & pickup the floor whenever I visit. Quite a few area grocery stores to get culls, bargain & discount items; Fred Meyer (several discount sections), new TraderJoe's, SAARS, Sprouts, Aurora PCC, Ken's, Shoreline T&C, GroshOut !! etc. Many thanks. I found this park while walking my dog around the neighborhood...it's very pretty with a lot of grass and shady spots to sit. There is a bench by the grass where people sit and watch the dogs as one lady told me. Lots of beautiful flowers 🌹 I sit down there and relax before beginning my walk again. Very enjoyable with all the tree cover and picnic tables. People even sit in the park grass getting a sun tan Mostly people walking there.beautiful park Would recommend for dog walking or sack lunch.

Great location for any little ones, including our canine friends, to enjoy for an hour or two. There's a sand lot filled with toys. Three areas to play and plenty of retired vehicles for kids to ride around the park. Bring some snacks and a blanket and you have the perfect picnic location. There's even a PeaPatch where kids can learn about veggies.
